Skull nail art...an easy way to let your inner punk rocker out. This is just your basic skull design, but there's a plethora if different skull designs out there. I think this one is a bit cute & cartoon-y! I'm planning a tutorial soon for the intricate sugar skulls you see during Dia De Los Muertos (the Mexican day of the dead) and a more sinister lookin skull. Keep your eyes peeled for that!
The only polish you need is simple black and white! I used Konad White (I've run out of my usual white polish!) and Beauty UK in Black.
tips & tricks:
For the eyes use a large dotting tool or free hand it with a brush.
The head was a bit too big for a dotting tool so I did it freehand. It was a bit tricky, so just be patient and take it slow.
You can make it a Hello Kitty skull by making the head more oval shaped and adding a pink bow.
I used a thin brush for the lines on the mouth, but if you don't have one try a toothpick.
These ninja turtle nails are so easy to do! Who doesn't love the good old turtles in a half shell! It's an easy way to spice up your mani in a matter of minutes.
In this tutorial I used Barry M in Spring Green, Beauty UK in Lilac Girl, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue Me Away, Sinful Colors in Ruby Ruby and NYC in Spring Street.
tips & tricks:
For the eyes use a dotting tool or a substitute such as a bobby pin or the end of a brush.
If your polishes for the masks aren't completely opaque, they might end up looking muddy over the green. Do a white stripe first, then go over it with your color.
I tried to paint on little mouths for them, but it was an epic fail! :( If you're feeling brave, give it a try.
For your thumb, you can try doing the TMNT logo, or a shell or do a little April or Splinter.
Splatter nails are super cool and easy to do, but they make a huge mess! I didn't tape my nails for this tutorial, and I really regretted it while I was doing the clean up. If you want a tutorial for how to tape off nails check out this one. Aside from the mess, this tutorial is a breeze and I got so many compliments on them. Play around with your color choices and make something beautiful!
In this tutorial I used Tip Top Nail Chic in Twilight for the base and splattered Beauty UK polish in Black and Lilac Girl, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Mint Sprint and Wet and Wild in Tickled Pink.
tips & tricks:
Lay out newspaper to work over. Put out more than you think you need....the polish is going to splatter everywhere!
Experiment with how high or low you hold the straw over your nail to get different effects.
When you dip the straw, try to get polish all across the opening of the straw, not just a ring of polish. It will splatter better.
If you're using a bendy straw, cut the bendy bit off.
Make your blows short and sharp. One quick little puff will splatter it better.
Be patient! This one takes some practise!
Penguin nails are cute and fun and just in time for winter. Whenever I do them it makes me giggle every time I see those cute little guys on my finger tips. For this tutorial I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue Me Away, L.A. Colors Color Craze in Shock, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black Out and some random white from Sally Girl.
tips & tricks:
I used stickers for my bows, but you could certainly hand paint them if you want. Make two dots on either side for the bow tie, and then pull them to join in the center. Voila! Bow tie!
They don't have to be blue! Try a bunch of bright colors for a cute, cartoon-ish look.
If you don't have a dotting tool, there is lots of other things you can use instead.
To give them extra kawaii eyes, do a large black dot with a smaller white one in the center. Adorable.
Give them angry little eyebrows, and boom! You have the madagascar penguins!
Paint the white body in a heart shape to make it even more caroon-ish look.4
