Nail Art Design Biography

Nail stamping is amazing! There are literally hundreds of image plates to choose from and sometimes you can find them on ebay for a very good price. The main manufactuer is Konad but there is also Bundle Monster. If you're looking to buy, your best bet is Ebay and Amazon. You can find nail stamping image plates on Amazon for half the price of the other sites. I paid too much for my sets...don't get burned!

What you need to get started is an image plate, a stamper and scraper and a "konad special polish". You can buy starter kits that include all the basics for around $20. It may seem like a lot of buying tools and accessories but the result is so worth it. You can create looks beyond your wildest dreams and the best part is...it's fast! For this tutorial I used Konad Plate M57, a must-have in my opinion.

tips & tricks:
You don't have to use konad special polishes. What makes them so special is that they are very, very opaque. Any polish that goes on opaque with one coat should work. Try out some polishes in your collection and see how they work, I've had good results with Sally Hansen Nail FX.
Lost your scraper? Don't fret, a gift card will do the trick.
Work fast! The polish starts to dry as soon as you paint it on the plate.
Try and try again. As first, I couldn't for the life of me get my stamps to line up properly on my nails. You will get better with practise.
When applying your top coat, use good amount and don't brush it over and over. Do one clean swipe, and do a second coat when dry if you need to.
Hold the scraper at a 45 degree angle when you scrape.
You don't neccesarily have to clean your stamper and plate in between each nail. Use your judgement.
Feeling a bit confused? Watch my video tutorial to wrap your head around it all. Skip ahead to 6:30 to get to the nail stamping.

Nail Taping is an easy to do technique that gives stunning, professional looking results. A very good technique for someone just starting out, or lots of fun to do with kids if you don't mind getting a little messy! It's very helpful if you want to do a stripe manicure but don't have a steady hand, or if you just want to do a starburst effect. This step-by-step tutorial will tell you everything you need to know.

tips & tricks:
Use a darker polish for your second color to ensure full coverage with just one coat.
Remove the tape when your polish is still wet. If you leave it too long, your second color won't come off smoothly.
Make sure your base coat is completely dry or it will come off with the tape.
Make the pieces long enough that they hang off the edge of your nail. This makes them easier to peel off quickly.
You can do as many colors as you like! Wait until it's dry and try a different shape on top!

Glitter nail art is so pretty, and the "glitter sandwich" is the prettiest of all. It's basically just layers of glitter and sheer polish, but it gives so much more depth than just layering glitter over plain polish. I've done some pretty cool nails before, but I honestly can't stop staring at these. They're like Flintones in Vegas or something! If you tend to shy away from glitter because it's such a nightmare to remove, I've got helpful tips on removing it at the bottom of this page.

tips & tricks:
If you hate taking off glitter sandwich polish, here's a how to from the glitter queen herself: Deborah Lippman. Soak a cotton ball in remover/acetone, put it around your nail and wrap your finger in tin foil. Wait 15 minutes, and slide the whole thing off. It's amazing how well it works.
Try different types of glitter in the layers for more depth.
I find the larger the glitter chunks, the more effective it is for this look.
This is a really good way to sort of "franken" glitter polishes that are really expensive. I'm looking at you, Deborah Lippman.
Flakies look awesome in "sandwiches" as well. Nubar 2010 is so gorgeous with pretty much any polish.
Some sheer polishes are also called "Jelly" polishes, that might help your googling!
Remove glitter polish without losing your mind and wasting a million cotton pads. Bonus points that it sort of makes you feel like a robot!
